On its own, CBD may quite possibly be one of the most beneficial substances out there. It’s no surprise that the ever-growing marijuana industry has began to capitalize on CBD. It’s important for you to understand, however, that not all CBD products are created equal.

These days, you can find “CBD” products in gas stations, drug stores, bars, and several other random locations. The problem is that most of these products are not 100% natural, and can contain dangerous chemicals that are potentially harmful to your health.

Not All CBD Products Are Created Equal

Even if a product claims to be 100% natural, studies and tests have found other added ingredients. Some of these come in shockingly large concentrations. For this reason, we want to make sure you understand what you could be getting if you buy “CBD” products from these unlicensed places.

Dextromethorphan (DXM)

This substance is a cough suppressant, that can be found in most over the counter cough medicines. Although it is an effective cough suppressant in the correct doses, it can be extremely dangerous if used in high quantities and/or for a prolonged period of time.

DXM has a long history of recreational abuse, as it can produce psychoactive effects, like euphoria, if taken in large doses or combined with other ingredients. DXM is responsible for approximately 6000 emergency room visits annually.

Long term use or overdose can cause decreased respiratory function, elevated heart rate & blood pressure, psychosis, seizures, insomnia, dysphoria, coma, and even death.

5F-ADB

This would be a grouping of synthetic cannabinoids, better known as K2 or Spice. Synthetic cannabinoids stimulate the body’s endocannabinoid system. These substances are illegal in most places.

5F-ADB typically makes the user feel drowsy and disoriented. Over time, these synthetic cannabinoids can cause nausea, fear, loss of bodily control, and problems breathing.  5F-ADB has been linked to dozens of overdoses and deaths.

Melatonin

While melatonin is a naturally-produced chemical in the body, many consumers do not expect to find it in their “100% CBD” products. Melatonin is the hormone that tells your body to go to sleep. It’s dangerous to take a melatonin supplement without knowledge, because it can not only make you drowsier than normal, but also raise blood sugar and blood pressure in some people.

Companies decided to add it into the products after claiming that consumers requested it. One test determined that the concentration of melatonin in hundreds of products was much greater than the concentration of CBD.

Widely Unregulated

You may be asking yourself, how do they get away with it? Well, the truth is, the CBD market is pretty much unregulated. In order to avoid these dangerous substances, don't get your CBD products from gas stations, drug stores, etc.

These products are clearly very dangerous and have no pharmacological data to prove them to be neither effective nor safe.

If you are searching for relief, CBD may be able to help. Going through the appropriate channels will allow you to get all-natural products from trusted manufacturer’s.
